Appearing for the first time in the history of the Czech National Ballet is a work by the legendary Israeli Ohad Naharin, who has belonged to the ‘crème de la crème’ of modern world dance theatre for several decades. Although Decadance is a special combination of parts or entire works created by Ohad Naharin over the past ten years, to a certain extent it is also a new form, since these earlier works are set in an original piece within the directorial line and choreographic structure of the entire evening. Ohad's powerful charisma, very specific geographic and cultural background, unique and original poetics of movement and expressive means in general are an enormous experience not only for the dancers but especially for viewers, who have a strong, unusual encounter at each performance.

With excerpts from his repertoire, Naharin has created the choreographic evening Decadance, a constantly evolving full-length work.

Choreograf

Ohad Naharin

Ohad Naharin is one of the world’s leading choreographers today. He has been the head of the Israeli Batsheva Dance Company since 1990. He studied at the School of American Ballet in the USA on a scholarship and further refined his technique at the Juilliard School. His dancing career continued in Israel (Bat-Dor Dance Company) and in Brussels, where he danced with Maurice Béjart’s Le Ballet du xxe siècle ensemble. In 1980, Naharin returned to New York, where he founded his Ohad Naharin Dance Company with his wife, Mari Kajiwar. In time he became a much sought-after artist and he received contracts from world-renowned ensembles, including Batsheva and the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company and the Nederlands Dans Theater. In 1990, he was appointed artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company, a post he plans to retire from at the end of the summer. Naharin’s choreography also makes extensive use of his musical education and skills. He regularly collaborates with prominent musicians who prepare scores for his dance creations. With excerpts from his repertoire, Naharin has created the choreographic performance Decadance, a constantly evolving full-length work.

Death in Venice
Choreography:
Valentina Turku

The novella Death in Venice is one of Thomas Mann's masterpieces and is also very popular thanks to Visconti's legendary 1971 film. Valentina Turcu’s ballet drama Death in Venice is a reinterpretation of Mann's masterpiece set to Mahler's delicate yet passionate music reflecting the deepest emotions and the most complex states of mind. The creative and choreographic imagination is controlled by the eternal movement of the soul and gently enters the vast universe of emotions pulsating with the nearly imperceptible internal power of Eros.

LOL - Trois Gnossiennes / 5 Tangos / Black Cake
Choreography:
Hans van Manen

Van Manen choreographed Trois Gnossiennes as a sensual duet about resignation, trust and harmony in consonance with Erik Satie's magical and melancholy music. 5 Tangos is built on the music of Astor Piazzolla. Highly popular with audiences, this work is charged with a fiery energy. A tango with something extra. Black Cake originated as a work celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Nederlands Dans Theater and is conceived as a festive parody in five parts based on humour – an irresistibly funny black cake.
